How do I cancel booked shifts?
Shifts cannot be cancelled via the ‘Employee on Line’ system. You must contact the Trust Bank to cancel or amend any booked shifts.
How are timesheets authorised?
When the shift is completed the unit manager or nominated deputy will confirm the hours worked and finalise the shift on the E-Rostering system. The shift is then authorised for payment and will be transferred to payroll at the next run.
Your basic hourly rate of pay will be dependent on the band required for the shift and the time of the assignment and will be in accordance with the Trust’s pay rates.
For Bank Only staff -Pay Rates for Bank shifts are at spine point 2 for Band 2 and spine point 3 for Band 5, for example from April 2017

You will be paid for any assignment done in the calendar month immediately following the month in which the assignment was undertaken. You will be paid by direct credit to a bank account nominated by you on the 28th of each month where the 28th falls on a weekend or bank holiday, payment will be made on the immediately preceding banking business day.
Payment for Flexible Bank Work will only be made on the basis of manager finalised electronic bank shifts on the Trust’s electronic system. You are responsible for checking this system or with the ward/unit directly to check that assignments worked have been accurately recorded on the system.
You are also responsible for bringing any discrepancies to the attention of the manager where the assignment was undertaken so that action can be taken before the pay submission date.
Your statutory entitlement to leave under the working time regulations is 28 days for each year running from 1st April to the 31st March in the following year.
As a Flexible Bank Worker you will be entitled to paid statutory annual leave in line with that stipulated in the Working Time Regulations 1998. Your entitlement will be calculated and paid to you and will be proportionate to the hours of work you undertake. The payment will appear as ”WTD Pay” on your payslip and the payment will represent 12.07% of the hours you are being paid for in each pay period multiplied by your hourly rate. This equates to 28 days annual leave (including bank holidays) in any leave year pro rata. The payment will be shown separately on your pay slip each month. The annual leave entitlement payment will not count as an assignment nor as a period of employment.

You will be advised on appointment of the mandatory training requirements and dates will be sent to you. Mandatory training is completed prior to you fulfilling shifts on the wards. You will be advised via ESR of annual updates and the bank team will monitor when updates are required.
We aim to support bank staff to access other training/development available in the Trust and you should contact the Bank Manager to discuss this
What arrangements are in place for local induction?
When you work in an area for the first time you must ask the ward staff for a local induction. They will have a checklist to complete which includes local fire safety induction. The form should be signed and returned to the Trust Bank Office.
Newly qualified staff can join the Bank to work as Health Care Support Workers whilst they undertake their preceptorship. Once completed the individual must inform the Bank with evidence that preceptorship is completed and the bank post can be changed to RMN.
In-House Trust Bank Pay Rate Changes September 2015 Frequently Asked Questions
In response to staff Big Conversation feedback, as part of Listening into Action, the Trust has reviewed and agreed to change pay rates for substantive staff who work bank shifts. The Payroll and Trust Bank teams assist in facilitating these changes but they do not make the decisions on rates of pay
Changes will apply to clinical substantive Trust staff registered with the In House Trust Bank
Changes will take effect from shifts worked from 1st September 2015
Currently the changes apply to substantive staff only. Other pay rates will be under review and any further decision to change pay rates will be communicated.
The principle for payment remains the same. Payment for shifts is directed by the grade requirement for the shift. For example – Registered In patient ward shifts are required at a Band 5.
Currently the bank rate of pay is set at minimum plus 2 points of the band. The new pay arrangements will mean that substantive clinical staff undertaking these shifts will be paid at their substantive rate up to a maximum level of the top spine point of the required band for the shift (Band 5). The minimum rate paid will remain at minimum plus two spine points of the band.
No, pay rates are only changing for clinical substantive staff
The rate of pay will be dependent on the band required for the shift and will be at the minimum plus two spine points for the band or spine point two for band 2 shifts
The rate of pay will be dependent on the band required for the shift and will be at the minimum plus two spine points for the band or spine point two for band 2 shifts
Payment will be in line with the new pay rates agreed or will remain at your 2009 agreed rate, whichever is the highest.
Hospital coordinator shifts are required at a band 6, therefore the principle applies that band 6 and 7 staff qualified to undertake these shifts on the bank will be paid at their substantive rate up to a maximum level of the top spine point of the required band for the shift (band 6).
