Special Leave Policy

The Trust recognises the need for staff to balance work responsibilities with their domestic and family responsibilities and civic duties. The purpose of this Policy is to allow employees appropriate time off to perform public duties or to take special leave, bereavement or funeral leave, with or without pay, whilst bearing in mind the operational needs of the Trust.


Each request under this Policy should be treated on its own merits as the circumstances under which leave is requested may vary considerably with each case.


There is no "entitlement" to special leave, rather employees may require time away from work to deal with urgent and unforseen domestic or other out-of-work commitments and this Policy sets out standards detailing how managers should deal with specific requests.
