Apprenticeships provide routes into a variety of careers within our organisation and offer new and current employees the opportunity to earn, learn and achieve nationally recognised qualifications at the same time.

South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (SSSFT) currently utilises three models for deploying apprenticeships within our organisation:

1. The Career Development Programme.

This programme offers employees at Bands 1-4 the opportunity to achieve a recognised vocational work-based qualification, learn the practical skills and knowledge necessary to carry out their specific work roles which can help them progress within a specific career and educational pathway.

2. ATA (Agency Training Agreement) Apprentices

Apprentices are directly employed by a Learning Provider, SSSFT acts as the host employer for the duration of the apprenticeship. This gives people aged 16+ the opportunity to earn, learn and gain a nationally recognised qualification. Upon completion apprentices have an opportunity to apply for jobs within our organisation.

3. Directly Recruited Apprentices

This type of apprentice will undertake a learning agreement for the duration of their apprenticeship. They are able to work, earn and learn to prepare for a role and automatically move from being a apprentice to the full role once they have met the requirement of the role and on successful completion of the award.

At present there are over 80 different apprenticeship programmes that apply to the NHS. Many of these are available throughout the organisation including:

  • Business & Administration
  • Customer Service
  • Health & Social Care
  • Hospitality & Catering
  • Facilities & Estates
  • Allied Health Professional Support
  • and many more....

New apprenticeships are continuing to be explored and developed everyday within our Trust.
