South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was delighted to welcome Major General Muhammad Salim Jehangir, Armed Forces Institute of Mental Health, Pakistan, to the Trust this week.
Major General Salim was visiting the Trust to discuss the possibility of Pakistani Military doctors spending time in the Trust to gain additional skills in mental health and psychiatry.
The Trust would also benefit from the knowledge and skills of the military doctors who would bring a fresh perspective, and also provide additional medical capacity to local mental health services.
A memorandum of understanding was signed by both Major General Salim and Neil Carr, Chief Executive Officer of SSSFT, and further discussion will take place as to how this innovative partnership can be taken forward.
Major General Salim said, “I have been most impressed with the staff I have met at SSSFT and the excellent facilities on offer. I look forward to further opportunities to find out how we can work together”.
Neil Carr added, “We are keen to explore how our two organisations can support each other to develop the psychiatric workforce and better meet the needs of those who use our services”.
